A Meeting with Ambassador Mumtaz Zahra Baloch of Pakistan

SNUAC researches entire Asia in five divided regions, and the Center for South Asian Studies conducts research and cooperative projects on and with India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. Though Pakistan and Bangladesh are important countries in their cooperation with Korea, the current research in Korea on those two countries does not meet the demands of fast-changing reality.

SNUAC seeks to fill the gaps in South Asian studies in Korea and attempts to unfold new cooperative projects with local research institutions in Bangladesh and Pakistan. As part of such an attempt, SNUAC invited Ambassador Mumtaz Zahra Baloch of Pakistan on November 13th for a meeting to pursue cooperative projects with Pakistani universities and research institutes based on cooperation with the Pakistani embassy in Korea.

SNUAC introduced various research and cooperation projects of the institute, especially the joint research projects conducted by CSAS in cooperation with Indian and Bangladeshi research institutes. After explaining future plans for new projects in South Asia, SNUAC suggested KF Global e-School project with Pakistani universities and cooperative projects with local research institutes and started a discussion on various methods of carrying out those projects. Furthermore, considering the fact that Korean society lacks popular awareness and interest in Pakistan, SNUAC discussed jointly pursuing exchanges with Pakistan through cooperation with the embassy, in areas beyond academic research.

This meeting with Ambassador Mumtaz Zahra Baloch was arranged by Ambassador Choong-Joo Choi (Former Korean ambassador to Pakistan). SNUAC consistently conducts research on major South Asian countries, those that are not studied much in Korea but nonetheless continue to rise in terms of importance. SNUAC plans to continue expanding various exchange and cooperation projects with those countries through CSAS. The meeting with the Pakistani ambassador has become a starting point for long-term international exchange and cooperation with the South Asian region.
