Asia Regional Information Center held the “Country Report Workshop” jointly with the Global Master of Public Administration program at SNU Graduate School of Public Administration on November 21st at SNUAC. This workshop was open for newly admitted students in the GMPA program in 2019, as a review session of the “Country Report” which is one of the major tasks of the ARIC. The GMAP program at SNU GSPA is a project jointly operated with KOICA and is an institution that invites public servants of Southeast Asia and Africa to Korea in order to study in the GMPA program for about a year and a half.

The workshop started with the opening speech of Prof. Kilkon Ko (SNU GSPA), the director of ARIC. In the first session, cases of two countries were examined for a discussion of the achievements and developmental directions of about 30 country reports that have been written as of now.

2018 GMPA students Sethina Ayongo Okornoe (Assistant Director 2A-Water Directorate, Ministry of Sanitation & Water Resources) of Ghana and Sofia Barragan Orellana (Analyst-Supervisor, National Secretariat for Planning and Development) of Equador talked about their struggles in writing the reports for a year, sharing their experiences and suggesting various ideas for improvement. The second session consisted of a presentation, “Technical advice for country report”, by Dr. Woojong Moon, a research fellow of ARIC, who introduced the data set that students can utilize when writing their reports and presented a constructive prospect of the country report. In the last session, representatives of the 2019 GMPA students, George Asenso Brobbey from Ghana and Rodrick Molonga Elekeleme from the Democratic Republic of Congo, briefly introduced their country reports written so far and expressed their enthusiasm for writing the country reports.

All presenters and participants posed various questions throughout the session for qualitative and quantitative improvement of the reports. Based on these discussions, all participants promised to continue their efforts in creating a network among 2018 and 2019 GMPA students and future students, and in building a systematic country report for international cooperation.
