Purpose
 SNU Asia Center (SNUAC) is a research institution for the dissemination of academic work on Asia, providing a basis for the interchange of cultures, and supporting exchange programs. SNUAC specifically supports research activities and exchanges between Asia and diverse nations. SNUAC contributes to accumulation of outstanding research achievements, as well as convening diverse invited lectures, workshops, and conferences domestic and abroad.
To further facilitate SNUAC’s role in Asian studies, the center created the student club “Friends of Asia(FA)” for Asian students at SNU. Starting from the 2018 Spring semester, support for FA activities will be increased drastically. The members will be invited to SNUAC academic events and will have access to opportunities for training and analyzing preliminary data on the Asian region.

Qualifications
Enrolled students at SNU (including undergraduate, graduate, and students on leave of absence) with Asian background (i.e. Asian nationality).

Period of Membership
Membership starts from April 2018 and students need to fulfill its activities for at least a semester as a general rule. Members who wish to participate longer may fulfill membership activities for additional periods. The regular meeting times will be adjusted by the members.

Details on Friends of Asia Activities
1. Seminars
– Weekly meetings (evenings on weekdays), organize seminars on Asia related topics per group
– Support provided (500,000KRW per group), need to submit seminar report
– Specific topics and seminar operation will be discussed by the members

2. Exploration of Culture
– Organized monthly
– Cultural trips to on-campus museums, the path of democracy, etc.
– One off-campus trip per membership period

3. Research on Asia Regional Information
– Conduct preliminary data research for SNUAC journal on the Asian region trimonthly
– Conduct, write, and submit reports on various current issues in the members’ country of origin
– Contribution fee is provided

4. Mentoring Activities
– Provide opportunities for networking with professors with same nationalities as the members

5. Participation in ‘Introduction to Asian Studies’ (optional)
– Will be held on Fridays 14:00~15:30, 12 sessions
